More local sightseeing...

Hello again! A few photos from last weekend. We had a couple of beautiful days in the city as we visited the seaside part of Edinburgh called Leith - yes, we enjoyed the Sunshine on Leith of Proclaimers fame. In Leith the former royal yacht the Britannia was available for tours so we spent a couple of hours on board checking it out. The next day we visited some of the other cool places around the city. Enjoy the photos!

We couldn't find Sophie for awhile, but found her in the Petty Officer's lounge...

The next day at the unfinished National Monument which was designed to show Edinburgh as the Athens of the North. In the 1800's the locals called it the National Embarassment. However, it's pretty cool, especially as its way up on the top of a hill. Makes for a cool end to a hike!

We visited an old graveyard and found some interesting headstones, lots of graves from the 16 and 1700s, and even a homeless person sleeping in a crypt (at least I think he was sleeping...).

The blackened Scott Monument, built to honour Sir Walter Scott after his death. It's very tall, and Sophie, Isaiah and I climbed the 360 stairs to the top. The winding staircase was VERY narrow by the top, but led to some amazing views of the city.

Mid level on the Scott Monument, Sophie and Isaiah are pretty impressed with the winds howling through the openings of the building. It actually got even windier at the top!
