Our trip to London - It's a Zoo!

I, Kim, get to write about our weekend in London. James had a conference on the first weekend of Sept. so we decided it was a perfect opportunity to spend a long weekend exploring the sites of London. We pulled the kids out of school Friday and headed out on Thursday evening on the train. It was interesting to find out that ours was the first train that went out that day due to flooding. Once on the train we found our reserved seats occupied (which happens all the time and ticks us off). I stuck to my guns until the kids and I had our seats. We lucked out and had the King of Rock and Roll himself sitting across from us. Scottish Elvis lives! Below is James and Elvis having an armwrestle!

Friday, Sept. 4th in the great city of London
On Friday, James had a meeting to attend so the kids and I headed to the London Zoo. I was able to get Emma on to the buses free by asking every time how much I needed to pay for her (kids are free ten and under).
The zoo was awesome. The kids and I spent about 3 or 4 hours wandering around. No whining about going home there! There were many favourites among the animal kingdom, but I think my favourite was the Okapi. It looks like a cross between a zebra and a horse with a dash of deer thrown in for good measure - very cool! If you have never seen one, google it (or look at the photo below!). We also went into the butterfly world. It was so humid my glasses fogged up completely! Thank goodness I was able to clean them off and enjoy the amazing sites in there.
After the Zoo we waited as three full buses passed and then finally got on one and headed toward Oxford Street and Primark. I had been told about the amazingly cheap clothing there, so we went! I was not prepared for what we saw. Three quarters of a city block long with two floors, Primark was wall to wall people. When I spoke with James about meeting us there I told him to brace himself for what he was about to witness. He was still in shock! We did manage to get some amazing deals though!
Below are Emma's photos of the Zoo. She took some amazing shots! This shot of the tiger could be in National Geographic!
The Okapi - my favourite.

Warthogs

Either the sign has grown legs or the emu is trying to hide! Not sure what the sign is for - a crooked table ahead?

One big lizard!

Vultures!

Flamingos feeding in the pond.

Llamas. (James still hates them.)

A very cool two-humped camel. Who needs a saddle?
